Western Railway conducts 371 drinking water quality tests in a day
Earlier on Saturday, October 24, Western Railway conducted 371 drinking water quality tests across eight locations in a single day, with all tests returning satisfactory results.
The testing was carried out as part of the railway zone’s routine water quality monitoring programme, which aims to check the safety of drinking water supplied at railway premises and support hygiene standards for passengers and employees.
The tests included 335 residual chlorine checks and 36 bacteriological tests. Western Railway reported satisfactory results across all the tests, indicating 100 per cent compliance with the parameters assessed during the testing.
Tests conducted at eight locations
The water quality checks covered eight locations and units across the Western Railway network: Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai Central, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Dahod.
The exercise involved monitoring residual chlorine levels and checking the bacteriological quality of drinking water. These checks are part of the routine surveillance measures used to assess water quality at railway facilities.
Residual chlorine testing helps determine whether an adequate level of chlorine remains in treated water to provide protection against microbial contamination. Bacteriological testing, meanwhile, helps identify potential contamination by harmful microorganisms and assess whether water meets the relevant safety requirements.
Western Railway said the 371 tests conducted during the day had all produced satisfactory results. However, the release did not specify the individual readings, the detailed test parameters or the methods used to collect and analyse the samples.
