Maharashtra records 13,928 farmer suicides in 54 months, over 8 deaths a day; state withholds district-wise data sought under RTI

From January 2022 to June 2026, Maharashtra witnessed a staggering 14,000 farmer suicides, painting a grim picture of agrarian hardship. The lack of district-wise data poses challenges in offering appropriate help to bereaved families. Despite only 8,650 families receiving compensation, around 4,000 claims were turned down for not meeting eligibility criteria.
