Travelling by Mumbai local on Sunday? Brace for mega block on Central Railway

Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will operate a mega block on its Main and Harbour lines on Sunday to carry out essential engineering and maintenance work, affecting local train services between Matunga and Mulund and Panvel and Vashi.

On the Main Line, a block will be operated on both UP and DOWN Slow lines between Matunga and Mulund stations from 11.05 am to 3.55 pm, the Central Railway stated in a press release on Thursday.

During this period, DOWN Slow line services departing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 10.14 am and 3.32 pm will be diverted to the DOWN Fast line between Matunga and Mulund. These trains will halt at Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund before being diverted back to the slow line at Mulund. They will reach their destinations around 15 minutes behind schedule.

Similarly, UP slow line services departing Thane between 11.07 am and 3.51 pm will be diverted to the UP fast line at Mulund and run between Mulund and Matunga, halting at Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Kurla and Sion. The services will be diverted back to the UP slow line at Matunga and reach their destinations around 15 minutes behind schedule.

All UP and DOWN local trains departing from or arriving at CSMT between 11 am and 5 pm will reach their destinations around 15 minutes later than their scheduled arrival times.

Harbour Line services

On the Harbour Line, a block will be operated on both UP and DOWN lines between Panvel and Vashi stations, excluding the PORT line, from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm.

UP Harbour line services towards CSMT departing Panvel between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm and DOWN Harbour line services towards Belapur and Panvel departing CSMT between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm will remain cancelled.

On the Trans-Harbour line, UP services towards Thane departing Panvel between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm and DOWN services towards Panvel departing Thane between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm will also remain cancelled.

To minimise inconvenience to passengers, Central Railway will operate special local trains on the CSMT-Vashi section during the block period.

Trans-Harbour line services will remain available between Thane and Vashi/Nerul stations, while PORT line services will continue to operate during the block.

Central Railway said the maintenance blocks were essential for infrastructure upkeep and passenger safety. It has appealed to commuters to bear with the railway administration for the inconvenience caused.
