Tribal students claim protest march stopped at Tilak Bhavan in Mumbai

Tension were reported at Tilak Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday after members of an Adivasi (tribal) students’ organisation were allegedly stopped by a large police deployment while attempting to march towards Mantralaya.

The protesters claimed that they had planned to take out a morcha to Mantralaya, but police stopped them at Tilak Bhavan.

The deployment and movement of protesters also affected traffic in the area.

March stopped at Tilak Bhavan

According to the protesters, they had planned to march towards Mantralaya to raise their demands. However, a large police force was deployed at Tilak Bhavan and the march was stopped before it could proceed further.

The police presence led to disruption on the route, with traffic affected in the surrounding area.

Permission for Azad Maidan denied

The organisers said they had earlier sought permission from the Mumbai Police to hold their protest at Azad Maidan.

However, according to the organisers, permission for the demonstration was not granted.

The protesters subsequently sought an opportunity to meet the Governor on Tuesday to put forward their demands.

Protesters taken away in buses

The organisers alleged that instead of being allowed to meet the Governor, protesters were detained and taken away in buses.

They claimed that the buses carrying the protesters were taken to different locations, including Nashik and Jalgaon.

The exact number of protesters detained and the reasons for their detention were not immediately available.

Fresh protest planned for October 25

The protesters have said they will continue their agitation and plan to hold another demonstration on October 25.

They also said they would once again seek permission from the Mumbai Police to hold their protest at Azad Maidan.
