Navi Mumbai airport's TajSATS kitchen ready to serve 40 daily flights

The TajSATS-operated flight kitchen at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is currently serving more than 40 departing flights a day and can scale its production capacity to 15,000 meals daily as flight movements and passenger numbers increase.

The facility, located within the airport premises, currently has the capacity to produce up to 7,500 meals a day. TajSATS, an aviation catering company, operates the kitchen.

NMIA is expanding its airline network ahead of the Winter Schedule 2026-27, which runs from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027.

Kitchen to cater to domestic and international airlines

The facility will provide catering support to both domestic and international airlines operating from NMIA. It can also provide local meal-uplift services for international carriers, allowing meals to be loaded closer to the aircraft’s departure point.

The kitchen can cater to different dietary requirements, including special meals, allergen-sensitive menus and halal meals.

According to NMIA, around 40 per cent of international carriers operating from India use back catering from their own flight kitchens.

Facility can scale production to 15,000 meals

The kitchen has a production capacity of 7,500 meals a day, which can be increased to 15,000 meals as demand rises.

Its location within the airport premises allows meals to be transported to departing aircraft, while refrigeration and food-production systems are used for storage, preparation and dispatch.

Food safety standards followed at facility

The facility follows food safety and quality standards, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), ISO 22000 and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requirements.

Quality-control measures cover food preparation, handling, storage and dispatch.

TajSATS has more than four decades of experience in aviation catering and also operates a flight kitchen at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

With NMIA’s airline network set to expand during the upcoming winter schedule, the flight kitchen will cater to the increasing number of flights operating from the airport.

FLY91 begins operations, launches direct flights to four destinations

Meanwhile, regional airline FLY91 began operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport on Monday, with its first flight arriving from Hyderabad and receiving a water cannon salute at the airport.

The airline will operate direct flights from Navi Mumbai to Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Goa and Agatti in the Lakshadweep Islands as part of its winter schedule.

With the addition of Navi Mumbai, FLY91 now operates to 14 domestic destinations and has five stations in Maharashtra.
