Mumbai Police barricade August Kranti Maidan, detain protesters in Grant Road

Mumbai Police barricaded August Kranti maidan in south Mumbai on Saturday, with sources saying that some of the protesters were allegedly detained at Grant Road.

Meanwhile, protesters were detained and taken to Gamdevi Police Station.

A protest had been called at August Kranti maidan on Saturday to demand the resignation on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and in support of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) agitation at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Meanwhile CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and others were detained in a flight as it landed at Delhi airport.

Popular YouTuber Dhruv Ratee was also detained on Saturday morning. He had announced that he would join the protest at Jantar Mantar. 

The Mumbai Police deployment and barricading restricted access to the ground as officers moved to detain protesters in the area.

Protesters taken to Gamdevi Police Station

Several protesters were taken into custody from the protest site in Grant Road and transported to Gamdevi Police Station.

The reason for the detentions were not immediately clear.

Access restricted at Nana Chowk Skywalk

Access to the Nana Chowk Skywalk was restricted on Saturday. The protesters demanded that the police show them the orders authorising their detention. Further details about the detentions and the reason for the restrictions were awaited.

Security beefed up outside in Andheri

Meanwhile, security was tightened outside DN Nagar Police Station in Andheri West on Saturday, with additional police personnel deployed in the area. Further details about the reason for the heightened security were awaited.
