Mumbai is expected to encounter a 10% water cut that may persist until 2027 due to insufficient rainfall. The city’s daily water demand is projected to rise significantly by 2041, reaching 6,424 million litres. Current sources cannot meet the demand, with a shortfall already evident at approximately 4,600 million litres. The BMC has identified several new water supply projects, including Gargai, Pinjal, and Damanganga-Pinjal.
