Scorching Heat Grips Vidarbha; Akola Hits 43.3°C

On Saturday, various areas in Vidarbha faced extreme heat, with Akola recording the highest temperature in Maharashtra at a sweltering 43.3 degrees Celsius, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather reports indicate that Vidarbha is experiencing significantly higher temperatures compared to other parts of the state, while coastal regions enjoy milder conditions. Akola stood out as the hottest spot, trailed by Chandrapur at 42.4 degrees Celsius and Brahmapuri at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Other notable temperatures across Vidarbha included:
– Wardha: 43.0°C
– Nagpur: 41.6°C
– Amravati: 41.4°C
– Yavatmal: 40.6°C
– Washim: 40.4°C
– Gondia: 40.3°C
– Buldhana: 39.5°C
These figures reveal that much of the region is consistently above the 40-degree mark, despite predictions of shifting weather patterns ahead of the monsoon.
Meanwhile, Mumbai and the Konkan region remain relatively comfortable, with Mumbai recording a maximum of 36.0 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz in the suburbs noted 35.5 degrees Celsius. Other temperatures in the Konkan area include:
– Dahanu: 38.1°C
– Alibag: 36.8°C
– Ratnagiri: 33.9°C
The coastal influence has kept these temperatures lower than in the state’s interior districts.
In contrast, Mahabaleshwar reported Maharashtra’s lowest minimum temperature at 19.9 degrees Celsius, highlighting a stark difference from the heat in Vidarbha. Several areas in western Maharashtra also enjoyed cooler mornings, with minimum temperatures hovering in the low twenties.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts a clear sky that may turn partly cloudy in the afternoon or evening, along with the potential for thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in some regions. While rainfall activity has been limited across the state, isolated showers were noted in a few locations.
Experts warn that the heat is expected to persist in interior Maharashtra, especially in Vidarbha, until widespread pre-monsoon rainfall takes hold. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related issues.
