Mumbai’s overall AQI in ‘Moderate’ category
Mumbai’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) on Sunday has reached 130 on the Central Pollution Control Board’s dashboard on Saturday morning, placing it in the moderate category. However, pollution levels varied considerably between monitoring stations.
Bandra-Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 129, followed by Borivali at 120 and Byculla at 103. These readings fall in the moderate category, indicating that some neighbourhoods were experiencing higher pollution levels than the citywide average.
Thane, Navi Mumbai also report varying AQI levels
Across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, air quality remained uneven. While several locations recorded satisfactory readings, some monitoring stations reported moderate pollution levels. Thane’s AQI on Sunday stood at 101, while Navi Mumbai recorded an AQI of 145.
The difference between the citywide average and individual station readings highlights the importance of checking local air quality, particularly for people sensitive to pollution.
Heat and pollution require precautions
With hot weather persisting alongside elevated pollution in some neighbourhoods, residents should limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
