Hundreds of fish found dead in historic Mumbai’s Banganga Tank, BMC calls meeting

Hundreds of fish have died in Banganga Tank in South Mumbai after recent ritual offerings increased water pollution. Local residents attribute the deaths to food waste and organic material coming from Pitru Paksha ceremonies. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is responding by increasing cleaning operations and involving local priests to educate devotees. Water samples have been sent for testing to assess the ongoing pollution levels in the tank.
