CM Fadnavis accuses Congress of creating distrust in constitutional institutions

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday accused the Congress and opposition parties of creating distrust among people towards the government and constitutional institutions through protests against the Election Commission.

Fadnavis says opposition is building narrative against institutions

Speaking about the protests, Fadnavis alleged that the Congress was trying to build a narrative that India’s constitutional process was not functioning properly and that institutions such as the Election Commission could not deliver justice.

“Their motive is very clear — to make Indians distrust their government, speak lies and build a narrative that India’s constitutional process is not functioning properly,” Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis links Election Commission protests to opposition campaign

He alleged that the protests against the Election Commission being held across the country were part of an opposition campaign to spread this narrative.

Fadnavis also accused the Congress of using the Constitution as a political tool while engaging in what he described as “unconstitutional” activities.

“They take the Constitution of India in their hands and do all unconstitutional things,” he said, adding that the opposition wanted “extreme Left” ideas to take hold in the country.

Fadnavis accuses Congress of creating negativity among voters

Fadnavis further alleged that the protests were creating negativity among people and claimed that Congress was trying to convey the message that “the Constitution cannot give you justice”.

CM Fadnavis recommends panel to probe chairpersons, members over MPSC paper leak row

Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis has recommended setting up a committee to examine the conduct of former and incumbent chairpersons and members of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) amid allegations of examination paper leaks and irregularities.

Fadnavis has sent the recommendation to Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, according to sources. The proposed panel is to be headed by a retired High Court judge and submit its report within three months, following which further action would be considered based on its findings.

Probe proposed under Article 317

The recommendation has been made under Article 317 of the Constitution, which deals with the removal and suspension of chairpersons and members of public service commissions.

The move comes as MPSC aspirants continue their protest in Pune, with the main demand being the resignation of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar. The agitation, which entered its sixth day on Tuesday, has received support from leaders and organisations from different political backgrounds.

The protesters have raised several demands, including concerns over the format of MPSC examinations. However, the demand for Bhimanwar’s removal remains the central issue.

The proposed inquiry follows a meeting between Fadnavis and a delegation of MPSC aspirants on September 30. The government had subsequently announced that a judicial inquiry would examine the functioning of former and incumbent MPSC chairpersons and members within three months under Article 317.
