Shiv Sena (UBT) alleges use of English language in Marathi question paper in MU

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) have raised concerns over the use of English words in Marathi question papers at the University of Mumbai.

According to the Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, the issue came to light after the Second Year Law examination held on 28 November 2025, where several questions and key terms in the paper were in English instead of Marathi.

Following complaints received by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray, Yuva Sena Senate member Sheetal Sheth Devrukhkar, along with Shiv Sena representatives Pradeep Sawant, Shashikant Zore, and former Senate member Rajan Kolambekar, met University Registrar Dr. Prasad Karande to submit a formal memorandum, they said.

The party further stated that the delegation emphasised that similar issues had occurred in previous examinations and called for all Marathi medium question papers to be strictly issued in pure Marathi. They stated that such lapses undermine the Marathi language and cannot be tolerated.

Responding promptly, Dr. Karande assured that the University would issue a circular directing all future question papers for Marathi medium students to be prepared entirely in Marathi, it said.
