Bag sparks alert at Borivali; cops trace owner and return Rs 7.5 lakh valuables

An unattended bag spotted around 11 am on Monday outside Borivali Railway Station (East) in Mumbai triggered a swift response from officials of Kasturba Marg Police Station.

Upon receiving the information, ATC officer API Yuvraj Inamdar and his team rushed to the spot and immediately informed DCP Zone 12 Mahesh Chimte, ACP (Dahisar) Shinde, and Senior Inspector Jayaraj Ranware. Acting under their guidance, the BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad), North Unit, was called in to inspect the suspicious bag.

During the inspection, the police traced the owner as Pradeep Nanubhai Doshi, 70, a resident of Kasili Baug, Vadodara, Gujarat. He had reportedly travelled to Poisar, Kandivali (East), to attend a wedding, where he had inadvertently left the bag behind. He was unaware of the loss until contacted by the police.

Upon verification, Doshi confirmed that the bag contained 50 grams of gold and cash, collectively valued at approximately Rs 7.5 lakh. All valuables were found intact.

He expressed gratitude to the Mumbai Police for safely recovering and returning his belongings.
