The investigation into the 52-year-old musician`s death took a new turn with the arrest of his cousin, Assam Police Service (APS) officer DSP Sandipan Garg, who was with the singer on a yacht in Singapore when he died on September 19.

DSP Sandipan was arrested following a series of interrogations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and was placed on a seven-day police remand after appearing before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The SIT sought a 14-day remand, but the court only granted seven days.

Prior to Sandipan Garg`s arrest, police apprehended four other people: the singer`s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, manager Siddharth Sharma, event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, and musician Amritprava Mahanta.

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami claimed that the singer`s manager and event organiser poisoned Zubeen Garg and chose a foreign location to conceal the act.

Zubeen Garg, noted for his work in Bollywood and Assamese music, drowned while swimming near an island on a yacht cruise in Singapore, where he had traveled to perform at the North East India Festival.
