Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s highly anticipated action thriller War 2 has failed to live up to the hype and faced a significant setback at the box office. The effect on its number is particularly observed in the Telugu states. Now, in an effort to mitigate the losses, reports claim that Yash Raj Films has stepped in with a compensation package for Telugu producer Naga Vamsi and his partners after the film tanked.
YRF to compensate Naga Vamsi
According to a report from Great Andhra, the Telugu version of War 2 was acquired by Naga Vamsi and his partners for a staggering Rs 80 crore. However, after its release, it film producers have incurred heavy losses. Thus, Yash Raj Films is said to be returning Rs 22 crore through structured settlements across key regions, including Rs 10 crore for Nizam, Rs 7 crore for Andhra, and Rs 5 crore for Ceded.
Reports also suggest that Naga Vamsi was initially confident that the film would collect Rs 100 crore from the Telugu states alone. However, the negative reviews and online trolling affected the film’s potential from day one. Additionally, the film clashed with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which emerged as a major audience favourite, negatively impacting War 2`s collections.
Notably, there has been no official confirmation regarding YRF`s compensation yet.
War 2 Telugu earnings
According to reports, the film’s Telugu version grossed Rs 60 crore in six days. Although the film had a great scale, high-octane stunts, and the combined star power of the leads, the audience largely rejected the sixth instalment of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe. Apart from Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan, the film also featured Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana.
Meanwhile, Naga Vamsi’s upcoming film, Ravi Teja-starrer Mass Jathara, which was initially scheduled for August 27, has been postponed. The upcoming entertainer, featuring Sreeleela and Rajendra Prasad, is expected to arrive in theatres on a new release date, which is yet to be announced.
In seven days of release, War 2 has earned Rs 204.59 crores at the Indian box office. This stands at Rs 241.41 crore gross, including taxes. At the worldwide box office, War 2 has collected Rs 309.41 crore gross.
