This new reveal adds another stirring chapter to the emotional journey, carrying forward a legacy of courage, brotherhood, and sacrifice that defined a generation and is now set to inspire the next. With Varun Dhawan’s impactful first look, Border 2 sets the stage for what promises to be one of the most anticipated cinematic experiences of 2026.

About Border 2

Border 2 is a sequel to the blockbuster 1997 war drama Border, starring Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt. The second installment of the movie is based on the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, and will serve as a tribute to the Indian army. Varun will be seen portraying Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya, a recipient of India’s highest military honour, the Param Vir Chakra, for his gallantry during the battle.

Wanting the film to be authentic, Anurag Singh and producer-writer Nidhi Dutta requested the Indian Army’s to help Varun Dhawan with his portrayal of a jawan and ensure the film was period-accurate. Varun also picked up the local Uttarakhandi dialect to seem convincing in the role. A source from the creative team revealed, “When the shoot began last week, another officer was deployed to guide Varun in his portrayal of a jawan. He ensured that the actor’s gait, manner of speaking and body language are in keeping with the disciplined approach of soldiers.

Coming to its album, the makers of Border 2 have reportedly acquired the rights to the iconic song `Sandese Aate Hain` from the original movie, reimagining it as `Sandese aate hai 2.0,’ with Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh lending their voices. Reports suggest that the song will be picturised on Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh among others.

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film brings together a powerful ensemble led by Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Medha Rana, Mona Singh and Sonam Bajwa with production by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta & Nidhi Dutta.

Diljit Dosanjh sacked from Border 2?

For the unversed, there had public outcry to oust Diljit Dosanjh from Border 2 and ban all his future projects. Dosanjh had been facing criticism for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his film Sardaar Ji 3, as she had expressed anti-national views in the wake of the Pahalgham attack on April 22, 2025.

On June 25, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) wrote letters to Bhushan Kumar, the co-producer of Border 2, and actor Sunny Deol, asking them to end their collaboration with Diljit. However, neither of them replied to the letters. FWICE President BN Tiwari further noted, “If the team continues to shoot with Diljit, that would show how they are supporting his cause.”

However, the singer-actor continues to be a part of the film.

Border 2 continues the legacy of honouring the heroism and indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers, taking audiences on a spectacular journey of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice.

Gear up for this monumental saga of patriotism and courage, as Border 2 will storm into cinemas on January 23rd, 2026.
