Thane to face 24-hour water cut on October 9 due to maintenance work

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Tuesday announced that several parts of the city will face a complete water supply shutdown on Thursday, October 9, due to urgent maintenance and upgradation work being carried out by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

According to the civic body, the MIDC will undertake essential repair and improvement work on the Barvi Gravity Main pipelines No. 1, 2, and 3 at the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant reservoir. The work will necessitate a full closure of the water supply for 24 hours — from 12:00 am on Thursday, October 9, to 12:00 am on Friday, October 10.

The shutdown will affect several areas under the TMC that receive water supply from MIDC. These include Diva, Mumbra (excluding parts of wards 26 and 31), all areas under the Kalwa Ward, and specific localities within the Wagle Ward such as Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2, and Nehru Nagar. Additionally, Kolset Khalsa village under the Manpada Ward will also experience a complete disruption.

Following the restoration of the water supply, residents may experience low pressure for one to two days, the TMC said.

The civic body’s Water Supply Department has urged residents to store adequate water in advance, use it judiciously, and cooperate with the authorities to facilitate smooth completion of the maintenance work and timely restoration of services.

On Monday, the Thane civic body had announced 10 per cent water from Tuesday, 7 October to Thursday, 9 October 2025.

Thane city will experience a temporary reduction in water supply as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertakes an upgrade of electricity meters at the Pise and Panjrapur power stations, according to the Thane Municipal Corporation.

As a result, the BMC has announced a 10 per cent reduction in water supply to areas of Thane that receive water from its sources.

The affected areas within Thane city limits include Naupada, Pachpakhadi, Hajuri, Luiswadi, Raghunath Nagar, Namdev Wadi, Sainath Nagar, Ramchandra Nagar 1, Kisan Nagar No.1, Kisan Nagar No.2, Shivaji Nagar, Padval Nagar, Janata Slum, Shivshakti Nagar, Karwalo Nagar, Ambika Nagar, Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Jai Bhavani Nagar, Kajuwadi, Jijamata Nagar, Balkum Pada No.1, Laxmi Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Manpada (Nal Pada), Kopri Dhobighat, Gavdevi (Luiswadi) Water Tank, Tekdi Bangla Water Tank, Bhatwadi, Indiranagar, Anand Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, and Kopri Kanhaiya Nagar.
