Thane: Major fire breaks out at dyeing unit in Bhiwandi’s Saravali village

A huge fire broke out at a dyeing unit in Maharashtra`s Thane district on Friday morning, civic officials said.

There has been no report of any injuries so far in the blaze that started in the factory in Saravali village of Bhiwandi taluka around 9 am, they said.

Saquib Kharbe, the chief of Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell, said that while two fire engines have been rushed to the spot, more have been called from areas like Thane and Kalyan.

He described the fire as “big”. An operation is underway to contain the flames, he said, adding that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Scrap godowns destroyed in fire in Navi Mumbai

In another incident, a major fire engulfed five scrap godowns in the Airoli area of Navi Mumbai on Thursday afternoon, an official said, adding that there were no reports of casualties, reported PTI.

The blaze was brought under control after more than two hours, said Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation disaster management cell chief Sachin Kadam, reported PTI.

Local residents claimed that the fire spread quickly due to a cylinder blast, he said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the godowns located near a slum, and multiple agencies responded to the incident, Kadam said, reported PTI.

“The Airoli Fire Station received a report of a fire in a chawl opposite the Sunshine Hotel at 2:51 pm. It quickly spread to the nearby scrap godowns where plastic and cardboard waste were stored,” he said.

Fire tenders from Koparkhairane, Nerul and Vashi were sent to help at the scene while the Airoli division was asked to make a JCB available to remove the debris, Kadam added, reported PTI.

The fire was successfully brought under control by 5:18 pm, and cooling work was underway, he said.

Fire in residential building, no injuries

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in the Vikhroli (West) area in Mumbai on Wednesday evening, officials said, reported PTI.

Nobody was injured in the incident. The blaze was reported at 7.19 pm on the sixth floor of Swapnapurti CHS, located on the Hiranandani Link Road in Sagar Nagar, reported PTI.

A fire brigade official said fire tenders doused the blaze within 10 minutes at 7.30 pm. The cause of the fire is not immediately known.
