Jimmy Shergill`s father passes away
According to a report in Film Information, the Bhog and Antim Ardas for the late Satyajit Singh will be held on October 14, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Gurdwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar, Santacruz West, Mumbai.
Jimmy hails from Deokahia village in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. His father was a senior artist, and the family has a deep connection with art and creativity. Interestingly, Jimmy is related to the renowned Hungarian-Jewish painter Amrita Sher-Gil—she was his grandfather’s cousin.
In an earlier interview with Times of India, Jimmy had spoken about his strained relationship with his father. He revealed that there were tensions between them after he decided to cut his kesh (hair). Reportedly, Satyajit did not speak to Jimmy for a year and a half because of this decision. Explaining the reason behind his choice, Jimmy said, “I wore a turban till I was about 18, until it became really difficult for me to manage washing and wearing one in a hostel. Of course, it was many other things too, but I asked my dad casually on one of his trips to my hostel and decided to cut my hair one day. Not just my parents, but my entire family didn’t talk to me properly for a year and a half after that, except for one of my uncles, who had also cut his hair before me.”
