Security has been beefed up in Mumbai and neighbouring Navi Mumbai ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s visit to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday, police officials said, reported the PTI.
During his visit to Maharashtra on October 8 and 9, PM Modi will inaugurate phase one of the airport and final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3 during his two-day Maharashtra visit beginning Wednesday.
PM Modi will reach Navi Mumbai and at around 3 pm, he will undertake a walkthrough of the newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport. Thereafter, at around 3:30 pm, he will inaugurate Navi Mumbai International Airport and also launch and dedicate various projects in Mumbai.
PM Modi will also address the gathering on the occasion.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is India’s largest Greenfield airport project, developed under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP). As the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, NMIA will work in tandem with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to ease congestion and elevate Mumbai into the league of global multi-airport systems. The airport, designed to be among the most efficient in the world with 1160 Ha area, will eventually handle 90 million passengers annually (MPPA) and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo.
Police in both the cities are on high alert in view of the presence of the two top leaders, said a senior official.
Besides local police, personnel of the Special Protection Group (SPG), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and traffic police have been deployed as part of the security arrangement, he said, according to the PTI.
PM will inaugurate the airport around 3.30 pm, and also launch or dedicate to the country various infrastructure projects besides addressing the function.
On October 9, Modi will host Starmer in Mumbai. They will attend the CEO Forum and 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest, the release said. PTI DC
PM Modi will also host UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the city on Thursday.
He will host Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai. The Prime Ministers of both countries will attend the CEO Forum at Jio World Center in Mumbai. Both leaders will later attend the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest. They will also deliver keynote addresses at the Fest.
