If reports are to be believed, Akshay Kumar`s 2012 hit Rowdy Rathore could be on its way to be revived for a second instalment. According to reports, Bhansali Productions is finally taking the action comedy ahead. While an official announcement is yet to be made, reports suggest that the production house is actively working on the new film.
Rowdy Rathore 2 in the making
An IndiaToday report claims that Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s production company is on its way to rolling out new titles under the banner, even when Bhansali himself remains busy with Love & War. One of the titles is the much-anticipated and discussed over the years, Rowdy Rathore 2.
An industry source reportedly ensured that the studio has finally decided to go big on the film and convert it into a full-fledged franchise. The source said, “Bhansali Productions is actively working on several major projects, including Rowdy Rathore 2. It`s one of the studio`s biggest franchises with a strong pan-India fan base.”
Although the cast is yet to be locked since the film is still in its early stages, the audience can reportedly expect a big pan-India star leading the second part in the franchise. The source said, “Given the film`s wide popularity, the makers are looking to cast a major pan-Indian star.”
About Rowdy Rathore
For the unversed, 2012`s Rowdy Rathore originally starred Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, with Prabhu Deva directing it. The film marked an official Hindi remake of the 2006 Telugu film Vikramarkudu. The action comedy was widely loved by the audience back then and earned around Rs 203.39 crore during its lifetime run.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar will soon be seen in Welcome To The Jungle. The film is the third chapter in the Welcome franchise, after Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015). The 2007 Welcome, starring Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Mallika Sherawat, went on to become a superhit. It got the status of a cult classic Bollywood comedy movie. The release date for Welcome 3 has not been announced as of now.
