Raut slams Fadnavis, alleges law and order collapse in Maharashtra

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday sharply criticised the Maharashtra government over recent crimes against women, accusing Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of ignoring the state’s law and order situation.

According to the news agency PTI, while speaking to reporters, Raut said there was no fear of the law in Maharashtra and alleged that the Home Department, headed by Fadnavis, was functioning in an “insensitive manner.”

His remarks come in the wake of two incidents: the suicide of a woman doctor in Satara and the murder-suicide of a 24-year-old woman and her ex-boyfriend in Mumbai.

Raut said, “Devendra Fadnavis has not paid attention to law and order or women’s safety. His focus is on political battles with the Opposition, using police machinery against them.”

The Satara doctor, employed at a government hospital, took her life on Thursday, leaving a note accusing a police sub-inspector of rape and a techie of mental harassment. The Mumbai incident on Friday involved a man fatally stabbing his former girlfriend before committing suicide.

As per PTI, Raut said such cases are becoming frequent, blaming the Home Department’s “insensitive” functioning. He accused it of surveilling Opposition leaders, tapping phones, and using police personnel for political purposes, warning that such misuse encourages violence against women.

Despite having a woman Director General of Police, Raut said, the Home Department is “lying motionless like a python,” with the government unable to control administration effectively.

Satara doctor suicide: IMA Maharashtra condemns death of woman doc, writes to CM Fadnavis demanding justice and reforms

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra on Friday strongly condemned the Satara doctor`s suicide and wrote a letter to CM Devendra Fadnavis demanding justice and reforms in the health sector.

A young government hospital doctor on Thursday committed suicide in Satara district of Maharashtra.

The 28-year-old doctor was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan town late on Thursday night. In a suicide note written on her palm, the physician, posted in Satara district in western Maharashtra, accused two policemen of rape and mental harassment, the police said.

In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on October 24, the IMA expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the incident, calling it “a reflection of the psychological, administrative, and moral strain” faced by doctors across Maharashtra, particularly those in rural and peripheral hospitals.

The IMA Maharashtra has called for urgent justice, accountability, and reforms to protect doctors working in challenging conditions.

The letter alleged that the deceased doctor was posted at the Sub-District Hospital in Phaltan area of Satara and she was reportedly subjected to sustained mental and physical harassment, despite reaching out to senior officials and police for help.

According to the association, she had even filed an RTI application to inquire about the inaction on her complaints.

The IMA, further in the letter, stated that her death highlights a serious failure of administrative response and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
