Rajeev Mishra takes charge as Director (Way and Works) at Konkan Railway

Rajeev Kumar Mishra, a senior officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) from the 1992 batch, has taken charge as Director (Way & Works) at Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), officials said on Saturday.

Before joining Konkan Railway, Mishra served as Chief Track Engineer, Central Railway, where he played a key role in managing some of the most complex and high-traffic sections of the Indian Railways, including the Mumbai Suburban Railway, and the Bor (Khandala) and Thal (Kasara) Ghat sections. His deep operational experience in handling infrastructure across these difficult terrains is expected to benefit Konkan Railway, which is also known for its challenging geographical conditions.

An alumnus of IIT Roorkee (B.E. Civil) and IIT Delhi (M.Tech in Building Science & Construction Management), Mishra also holds a Master’s in Financial Management from JBIMS, Mumbai, and an LLB from Mumbai University. He has undertaken professional training at leading institutions including INSEAD (Singapore), ICLIFF (Kuala Lumpur), ISB (Hyderabad) and IIT Bombay.

With over 31 years of experience in railway infrastructure construction, maintenance and modernisation, Mishra has led several major projects such as the Pune-Miraj Doubling, Panvel-Karjat, and Ahmednagar-Beed-Parli Vaijnath New Line Projects. He also introduced several firsts in the Mumbai Suburban Section, including long welded rails, deep screening by BCM, and segmental box bridge construction.

Mishra’s contributions have been recognised through multiple honours, including the General Manager’s Award (2009 and 2016), the Best Construction Unit Award twice, and other awards for track modernisation and engineering innovation, an official statement said.

His appointment is seen as a strategic step that brings rich field experience and technical expertise from the Mumbai suburban network to the Konkan Railway. His leadership is expected to help strengthen and expand KRCL’s infrastructure, especially in areas involving terrain challenges, infrastructure renewal, and complex project execution, officials said.
