Police have busted a flesh trade racket operating under the guise of a spa in Navi Mumbai and rescued six women who were allegedly forced into prostitution, officials said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
A woman manager of the spa has been arrested, they said.
Based on information about illegal activities, the police conducted a raid on Monday at the spa located in the Juhugaon area of Vashi, reported PTI.
The police arrested its 34-year-old manager, a Kolkata native who was allegedly operating the flesh trade racket in partnership with a man, who is currently absconding, a Crime Branch official said, reported PTI.
The police rescued six women who were being counselled and rehabilitated, he said.
Search was on for the absconding man and a case was registered against him and the spa manager under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Thane man loses Rs 11.69 lakh in forex trading fraud; police launch probe
In another case, police have registered a case against 16 persons for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 11.69 lakh in a forex trading racket in Maharashtra`s Thane district, officials said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The accused lured the 24-year-old victim, a resident of Ulhasnagar, into forex trading by promising high?? returns.
Based on their instructions, he transferred Rs 11,69,165 to multiple bank accounts between October 14 and November 22. But when he asked for his returns and his invested amount, the accused stopped responding, an official from Ulhasnagar police station said, reported PTI.
Based on the victim`s complaint, the police registered a case on November 30 against 16 persons, including a woman and a person posing as a customer care executive, on charges of cheating under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, he added.
Man murdered, another injured in attack in Thane; key accused held
Meanwhile, a group of persons allegedly killed a man and injured another person in Maharashtra`s Thane district, police said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The police have arrested the main accused in the incident which took place near a temple in the Mumbra area at around 9 pm on Monday, they said.
The key accused, Ritik Vinay Dubey, also known as Pandit, and some other persons allegedly attacked two men, both residents of Devi Chal village in Ganesh Pada, with sharp weapons, Mumbra police station`s senior inspector Anil Shinde said, reported PTI.
One of the men, Abhijit Bhaskar Patil (20), was killed, while Sumit Sunil Gawde (22) was seriously injured and undergoing treatment in a hospital, he said, adding the motive behind the attack was being probed, reported PTI.
Dubey was arrested and a case was registered against him and the other accused on charges of murder and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official said.
