Navi Mumbai to get one of India’s largest radiation therapy centres

ICICI Bank, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), has begun the construction of a cancer care facility at the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Navi Mumbai. The project, funded through a Rs 625-crore corporate social responsibility (CSR) contribution from the bank, will house one of India’s largest radiation therapy centres.

The 11-storey building, named the ‘ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology’, will span across 3.4 lakh square feet. Once operational, it is expected to provide radiation therapy to around 7,200 patients annually, delivering more than 2 lakh sessions. The facility will also offer outpatient consultations and diagnostics to 25,000 new patients each year. The facility is likely to be completed by 2027.

The foundation stone was unveiled on Sunday in the presence of ICICI Bank Chairman Pradeep Kumar Sinha, executive directors Sandeep Batra and Ajay Gupta, and Tata Memorial Centre Director Dr Sudeep Gupta.

Speaking at the event, Sinha said, “ICICI Bank, through its CSR arm, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, works in four thematic areas – healthcare, environmental conservation, sustainable livelihood, and community development projects. We are pleased to partner with TMC on a project that strengthens critical healthcare infrastructure in the country. Once completed, the ‘ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology’ will be one of India’s largest centres for radiation therapy, significantly increasing access to advanced treatment.”

The facility will include 12 advanced Linear Accelerators (LINACs) and diagnostic tools such as MRI and CT scanners, along with CT simulators.

“These facilities will provide evidence-based cancer therapy to underserved patients and enhance our capacity for years to come. The blocks will establish centres of excellence in childhood and adult blood cancers and include one of India’s largest radiation oncology facilities. This contribution strengthens our ability to deliver advanced care to patients nationwide,” said Dr Gupta.

The centre will also have state-of-the-art infrastructure to support research and training for medical, technical, and paramedical staff.

Batra added that the new centre will increase the current radiation treatment capacity six-fold, in addition to providing consultations and diagnostics.

The Navi Mumbai project is part of ICICI Bank’s broader Rs 1,800-crore commitment to Tata Memorial Centre for establishing three advanced cancer facilities. The other two centres will be located in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). Construction at the Visakhapatnam facility is currently underway.
