Following the blast in Delhi on Monday that put security agencies across the country on high alert, the Seawoods traffic police in Navi Mumbai have intensified their crackdown on abandoned vehicles parked in public areas.
Acting on several complaints from local residents, traffic officials on Tuesday carried out an inspection drive in Sector-2 (Ulwe), where a few cars and two-wheelers had been lying idle for days. The police verified vehicle documents, registration numbers, and ownership details, marking suspicious ones for further investigation.
A senior traffic officer said, “The action is part of our preventive security measures to ensure no abandoned or suspicious vehicles pose a threat to public safety. After the Delhi incident, all police units have been directed to remain extra vigilant.”
Officials said that abandoned vehicles not only cause congestion but also raise security concerns, as they can be misused for illegal or anti-social activities. The vehicles that have been seized will be moved to the police yard after verification.
Local residents welcomed the move, stating that the unattended vehicles had become an eyesore and potential security hazard. The police have appealed to citizens to come forward and report any abandoned or suspicious vehicles to the nearest traffic police station or through the Navi Mumbai Police helpline.
