Mumbai weather updates: Temperatures soar past 35 degrees Celsius

Mumbaikars woke up to sunny skies and hot, humid conditions on Friday. Both the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded dry and humid weather.

According to the latest Mumbai weather updates from IMD, Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees Celsius above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 24.5 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was measured at 81 per cent.

In Santacruz, the mercury rose slightly higher, with a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees Celsius above normal, and a minimum of 25.5 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were recorded at 70 per cent.

Despite the relatively high humidity, no rainfall was observed at either observatory.

City`s AQI in `good` category

On October 17, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality remained in the `good` category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 85 at 10:03 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed `good` AQI. Worli recorded `good` air quality with an AQI of 76. Byculla, Colaba and Borivali recorded `good` air quality with an AQI of 78, 79 and 88, respectively. 

Chembur, Ghatkopar and Andheri recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 67, 94 and 83, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mazgaon, Malad and Bandra Kurla Complex recorded `moderate` air quality, with an AQI of 104, 107 and 104, respectively.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the `good` category with an AQI of 72, while Thane registered a `good` AQI of 63.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and from 400 to 500 or above `severe`.

Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital continued to be in the `Very poor` category on Friday morning, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, the AQI was measured at 367 at 8 am. The highest AQI was recorded in Anand Vihar (370), followed by Wazirpur (328), Jahangirpuri (324), and Akshardham (369).

Several areas in Delhi recorded an AQI above 200, which means the air quality in these localities has turned `Poor`.

Anand Vihar, Bawana, and Chandni Chowk, the AQI was recorded at 276, 367, 310, and 212, respectively. In Dwarka Sec 8, AQI was recorded at 305, Nehru Nagar at 269, IGI Airport (T3) at 221, Rohini at 245, Pusa at 224, and India Gate (200).
