Mumbai on Monday woke up to a hazy morning that clearly depicted the lowering air quality across the city. With AQI levels continuing to upscale in the last few days, the lowering temperature has been making the air quality a lot more concerning.
As per the data released by the Indian Meteorological Department, Mumbai on Monday is likely to experience partly cloudy skies towards evening. While the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius, the cold breeze across the city will make the weather a lot more pleasant.
Surprisingly, the IMD on Monday has also predicted partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of thundery development in the next 48 hours.
Local weather observations from IMD Mumbai indicate that in Colaba, the minimum temperature is 23.5 degrees Celsius, while in Santacruz, the minimum temperature is 21.2 degrees Celsius with zero rainfall recorded so far.
Elsewhere in the Konkan region, Ratnagiri reported a minimum temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius with 75 per cent humidity.
In Pune, the minimum temperature dipped to 16.7 degrees Celsius with 89 per cent humidity. On the other hand, Dahanu recorded a low of 21 degrees Celsius with 74 per cent humidity.
Mahabaleshwar, the hill station, on the other hand, remained one of the coolest in the region with a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai AQI stays at `moderate` level
As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Mumbai’s AQI in the last 24 hours stood in the ‘moderate’ category with 176 AQI. With the worsening air quality across the financial capital of India, experts have warned that the levels are likely to worsen as the winter season approaches.
As we move from prolonged rains to impending winter, Mumbai has consistently recorded worsening AQI during this seasonal change since 2022, particularly from November to January. This is due to reduced atmospheric moisture and considerably slow wind speed in comparison to the monsoon months.
According to them, the national capital on Monday recorded an AQI of 391, categorised as `very poor`, as of 4 pm on Sunday.
The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and 400 to 500 or above `severe`.
