Mumbai AQI still at ‘moderate’

Despite the sudden drop in temperature across the city and suburbs, the Air Quality Index across the city has not observed any improvement. The air quality across the city is observed to be a concerning scenario. While the mist disappeared over the course of the day, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality is in the `moderate` category.

Experts have warned that AQI is likely to worsen as winter approaches, which was the scene previously in 2023-24. As the western part of the country moves from prolonged rains to impending winter, Mumbai has consistently recorded worsening AQI during this seasonal change since 2022, particularly from November to January. This is due to reduced atmospheric moisture and considerably slow wind speed in comparison to the monsoon months.
