Mumbai weather update: Clear skies today after rain; city records ‘good’ AQI

Mumbai awoke to clear skies on Tuesday, following moderate showers on Monday evening that offered welcome respite from the heat and rising pollution levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies through the day, with chances of light to moderate rain or isolated thunderstorms in select pockets.

As per the IMD’s latest forecast, maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be near 24 degrees Celsius. The brief spell of rain has helped cool the city and contributed to a noticeable improvement in air quality.

City`s AQI in `good` category

On November 4, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality in the `good` category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 62 at 9.05 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed `good` AQI. Colaba, Mazgaon, Borivali, Bhandup and Mulund recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 29, 39, 79, 43 and 71, respectively.

Meanwhile, Powai, Malad, Andheri and Byculla recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 51, 76, 51 and 37, respectively.

Sewri recorded `moderate` air quality, with an AQI of 124.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the `good` category with an AQI of 54, while Thane registered a `good` AQI of 60.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and from 400 to 500 or above `severe`.

Meanwhile, there was no respite from pollution woes in the city on Tuesday as the air quality remained in the `very poor` category with a reading of 311.

However, four stations — Alipur (421), Wazirpur (407), Bawana (402) and Anand Vihar (412)– recorded air quality in the `severe` category. Seventeen monitoring stations recorded `very poor` air quality with readings above 300, the Central Pollution Control Board`s (CPCB) Sameer app showed.

The minimum temperature settled at 16.5 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches above the season`s average, while the humidity was recorded at 94 per cent at 8.30 am. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius with the weather department forecasting partly cloudy sky.
