Mumbai weather: Thunderstorms and moderate rain likely; IMD issues yellow alert

Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to experience generally cloudy skies today, with a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall and gusty winds.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, warning of isolated thunderstorms with lightning, moderate rainfall, and winds reaching 40–50 km/h.

Today, the city can expect a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

City`s AQI in `good` category

On October 28, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality in the `good` category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 52 at 10.05 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed `good` AQI. Mazgaon, Worli, Borivali, Bhandup and Vile Parle recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 97, 62, 30, 43 and 56, respectively.

Meanwhile, Powai, Malad, Andheri and Byculla recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 45, 59, 41 and 35, respectively.

Colaba recorded `moderate` are air quality, with an AQI of 138.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the `good` category with an AQI of 43, while Thane registered a `good` AQI of 39.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and from 400 to 500 or above `severe`.

Meanwhile, Delhiites woke up to a hazy morning with cloudy skies on Tuesday, with the city`s air quality remaining in the `very poor` category at 305, data showed. On Monday, Delhi`s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 301 at 4 pm, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data shoed. According to the Sameer app developed by the CPCB, 27 of the 38 monitoring stations in the city reported `very poor` air quality, with readings exceeding 300.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature was recorded at 20 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 3.9 notches above normal, while the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 28 degrees Celsius.
