Two people sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder blast in a chawl at Mankhurd area of eastern Mumbai on Tuesday evening, civic officials said.
According to the officials, the blast took place in a room of a chawl located on 30 Feet Road in Janata Nagar area of Mandala.
The explosion damaged a portion of the roof of the affected room, officials said.
The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade at around 6.50 pm.
Injured shifted to Sion hospital
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), local residents acted swiftly and shifted the injured persons to LTMG (Sion) Hospital before emergency services arrived. Doctors later confirmed that both victims were admitted to the burn ward for further treatment.
The injured have been identified as Prithwipal Jaspal, 40, who suffered around 30 per cent burns to his face, hands and chest and Rajesh Khichad (25), who sustained about 25 per cent burns to his face, hand and leg.
Emergency response
Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Adani Energy, and local ward staff were rushed to the spot following the incident. The situation was brought under control, and no further danger was reported.
Officials said the exact cause of the gas cylinder blast was being investigated.

Fire breaks out at Kandivali industrial unit in Mumbai
A Level-1 fire broke out at the Perfect Paper Corn Company in the Charkop area of Mumbai’s Kandivali West on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC’s) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at 2.37 pm. The fire, confined to electric wiring, installations, and paints, affected an area of approximately 3,000 square feet on the ground floor of the ground plus one-floor building.
Smoke was reported inside the premises.
The MFB declared the blaze a Level-1 fire at 3:02 pm.
Several agencies were mobilised, including the MFB, police, Adani Power, 108 ambulance, and ward staff.
No injuries have been reported so far, officials added.
Further investigations to find out the cause of the blaze was underway, the officials said on Tuesday.
