Mumbai: Two injured after building collapses during demolition in Mahim

Two people were injured after a four-storey building collapsed during demolition work in Mumbai’s Mahim East on Wednesday afternoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The incident occurred at Unnati Society, located near Mahim Railway Station on Senapati Bapat Marg, around 1:48 pm. An update was received by civic authorities at 2:45 pm, officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) confirmed.

According to officials, the entire structure — a ground-plus-three building — came down while demolition work was in progress. Teams from the MFB, Mumbai Police, BMC’s local ward office, and 108 ambulance services were immediately deployed to the site.

Two injured individuals were rescued from the debris and rushed to Raheja Hospital for treatment. Their condition is yet to be confirmed by hospital authorities.

Civic officials said that the cause of the collapse is being investigated.

Fire breaks out inside closed office in Ghatkopar

In another incident, a fire broke out in a building in suburban Ghatkopar (West) on Monday evening, a civic official said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident and the flames were swiftly extinguished.

The fire inside a closed office on the second floor of Metropole building near Zunzunwala College was reported at around 5.59 pm.

A fire brigade team rushed to the spot and doused it by 6.12 pm, the official said.

The cause of the fire was being ascertained, he said.

Major fire at shoe showroom near Mumbai`s Crawford Market; no report of injuries

Meanwhile, a major fire broke out in a showroom of a leading shoe brand near Crawford Market in south Mumbai late Sunday night, a civic official said.

There is no report of any injury to anyone, he added.

“The blaze started in the ground floor showroom at Dwarkadas Building on Lokmanya Tilak Road. The Mumbai Fire Brigade was alerted about it at 10.26 pm. It was initially classified as Level I but was later upgraded to Level II at 10.44 pm as smoke spread to adjacent shops. The fire was confined to materials inside the showroom of the four-storey building,” the official said.

Eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers, one ambulance from 108 service, and other firefighting equipment have been deployed at the site, where operations to control and douse the blaze are underway, he said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, the official said.
