Mumbai: Tanker driver on phone runs over woman in Jogeshwari, arrested

In a tragic accident on September 8 in Natwar Nagar, Jogeshwari (East), Asha Jadhav (63), who had come to attend a relative’s Shrad ceremony, died after being hit by a water tanker. It is alleged that the tanker driver was on his mobile phone and lost control of the vehicle. Jogeshwari Police arrested the driver and launched an investigation into the matter.

According to a complaint filed by Aditya Jadhav (19), his cousin aunt, Asha Jadhav, had come to Mumbai to attend the Shrad of his late uncle Ajay. After the ritual, Aditya was dropping her home on his Activa scooter. Around 12:45 pm, when they were passing in front of a school gate, a speeding water tanker came from behind and struck their scooter on the left side.

Due to the impact, Asha Jadhav fell off the scooter. When Aditya immediately turned around, he saw that the tanker driver, Angadkumar Yadav (32), was speaking on his phone. The complaint alleges that the accident happened because his attention was on the call rather than traffic and vehicle control.

Shockingly, the tanker driver did not honk, and after the collision, instead of stopping, he drove straight ahead. As a result, Asha Jadhav’s left hand came under the tanker’s wheels, leaving her gravely injured. She was rushed to the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari (East), but doctors declared her dead before admission.

Jogeshwari Police have booked tanker driver Angadkumar Yadav under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS Act and arrested him.
