Mumbai: Six, including four children, injured after fire breaks out in Ghatkopar

At least six people, including four children, were injured after a fire broke out in a chawl at Sai Nagar on 90 Feet Road in Pant Nagar.

As per the information received by the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Ghatkopar (East), on Monday afternoon, the incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at 12:49 pm, following which multiple emergency agencies were rushed to the spot.

According to officials, the fire erupted on the first floor of a ground-plus-one chawl-like structure and was confined to a small room.

The fire involved electric wiring and installations, a leaking LPG cylinder, a gas stove, utensils, household clothes and other domestic materials, causing thick smoke and panic among residents.

Acting swiftly on the information received, fire engines, police teams, BMC ward staff and a 108 ambulance were immediately mobilised.

The firefighters managed to bring the situation under control swiftly; the blaze was completely extinguished at 1:28 pm, said the MFB in its update issued at 2:17 pm.

All six injured people were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where medical officers confirmed the extent of their burns.

Mumbai local services resume on Western and Harbour lines after Dharavi fire

Suburban railway services on Mumbai’s Western Railway (WR) returned to normal on Saturday after a Level-2 fire near Mahim Fatak disrupted operations in the afternoon.

According to railway officials, the first Harbour Line train on the DOWN route departed at 2:11 pm, moving at 10 kmph after a memo was issued, while on the UP Fast Line, caution orders were relaxed at 2:29 pm. All services are now operating normally, the railways said.

A blaze broke out earlier at the Navrang Compound near Mahim Fatak, close to the Sion–Mahim Link Road in Dharavi. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) received the first alert at 12:29 pm. The fire was confined to a ground-plus-one hutment structure located near the railway phatak and Noor Restaurant on 60 Feet Road.

In view of controlling the incident, fire engines from Dadar, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Bandra, and Shivaji Park stations were deployed, along with police teams, 108 ambulance services and ward staff. At 1.18 pm, MFB upgraded the incident to a Level-2 fire. No injuries have been reported so far, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
