Mumbai Metro Line 4 project is now over 84.5 per cent complete, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said on Monday after installing 56-metre steel span overnight at the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) section.
According to an official statement, the Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavali) took a significant step forward as a 56-metre-long, 450-tonne steel span was successfully installed overnight at the busy GMLR (Bhandup–Sonapur) Junction.
It said that the installation, carried out by MMRDA’s engineering teams, required precision under challenging conditions, including unseasonal rain.
The work involved nine high-capacity cranes, two multi-axle pullers, and over 100 skilled personnel, MMRDA said.
It said that the achievement ensures minimal disruption to city traffic and brings Mumbai closer to faster, safer, and more efficient travel.
Officials, including the Traffic Police, BMC, and MSEDCL, provided crucial support to ensure the work was carried out safely.
MMRDA described the operation as a showcase of engineering excellence and teamwork.

A traffic notification, issued by the police, said that the civic officials will be carrying out works for Mumbai Metro-4 line at the GMLR (Bhandup Sonapur) Junction on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and they will install a special steel span for Metro 4.
The 56-metre-long steel span will be installed in two phases, requiring cranes, multiaxle trailers, and other heavy machinery, it said.
The police had stated that there will be a closure of the route on the following dates and times-
November 1, 2025: 10 pm to 10 am (next day)
November 2: 10 pm to 7 am (next day)
If work is not completed, it will continue on November 8 and 9, 2025 during the same night-time hours, police said.
It said that from November 3 to December 31, 2025, one lane at the junction on LBS Road may remain closed as required for steel span connection and other works.
The first test run of a 10-kilometre section of Metro Line 4 in Thane city was successfully conducted, September 22, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the city’s rapid transit network.
The total length of Mumbai Metro Line 4 stands at approx. 35.2 km with 32 metro stations and 8-car fully automated metro trains will run on the route.
