Mumbai: Khar police arrest two, including minor, for stealing scooters

The Khar police have arrested two persons, including a 17-year-old boy, for allegedly stealing motorcycles from the Khar Danda area and recovered five stolen Honda Activa scooters worth over Rs 2 lakh.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Premdutt Udayveer Sharma, 58, a catering professional residing near Shankar Vyayam Shala, Khar Danda. Sharma had parked his white Honda Activa outside the gym on the night of October 5 and discovered it missing the next morning.

Acting on the complaint, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Sanjeev Dhumal and PI (Crime) Vaibhav Katkar analysed CCTV footage, which showed two suspects stealing the vehicle. The footage helped police trace the duo’s route and identify them.

Acting on a tip-off, officers detained the accused near Pimpleshwar Hanuman Temple in Khar Danda. They were identified as Mayuresh Maruti Nivate, 19, a resident of Santacruz West, and a 17-year-old juvenile.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to targeting old-model Honda Activas using duplicate keys. They allegedly rode the vehicles until the fuel ran out and then abandoned them. Based on their statements, police recovered five stolen scooters.

The operation was carried out by PSI Hanmant Kumbhare and his team, including Police Naik Kundan Kadam and constables Mahesh Lahamge, Namdev Sawant, Nitin Kolekar, Vishal Bhamre, and Sumit Ahivale, under the supervision of Senior PI Dhumal and PI (Crime) Katkar.
