In a major outbreak, the police authorities in Maharashtra`s Palghar district have seized hashish valued at Rs 12 lakh. Amid the seizures, the Maharashtra police have also arrested one person in connection with the seizure, an official said on Friday.
As reported by news agency PTI, acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a man, who identified himself as Simon Jetya Valvi, on a motorcycle near the Chikhla beach around 4 am on Thursday.
According to the police authorities who made the seizure, a search of the two-wheeler led to the recovery of 600 grams of hashish, a recreational drug, worth nearly Rs 12 lakh.
Furthermore, a case has been registered against the man at the Gholwad police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The Palghar Superintendent of Police, Yatish Deshmukh, while addressing the incident, said that “This operation reflects our continued focus on dismantling illegal drug networks in Palghar district. All police station in-charges and the local crime branch have been instructed to take strict action against those involved in the narcotics trade and other unlawful activities,” as cited by news agency PTI.
He further added that the district police are also maintaining a close watch on coastal and state border areas, which are often used as transit points for narcotics movement.
Mumbai Customs seize drugs worth Rs 13 crore
In a different incident, Mumbai Customs officials from Zone III at Mumbai airport also seized narcotic substances worth over Rs 13 crore and foreign currency worth Rs 87 lakh in different operations carried out between October 31 and November 3, 2025.
The officials said seizures were made in five separate cases at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) following intelligence-based operations and passenger profiling.
Based on specific intelligence, Mumbai Customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Colombo. A search of the passenger’s baggage led to the recovery of 2.568 kg of hydroponic weed (marijuana), valued at approximately Rs 2.56 crore. The drugs were hidden inside a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
In a third case, a passenger arriving from Bangkok was also found carrying 1.144 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at Rs 1.14 crore, hidden in shampoo bottles. The individual was arrested under the NDPS Act.
Another passenger arriving from Bangkok was caught with 6.975 kg of hydroponic weed, worth Rs 6.97 crore, concealed in a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act, officials said.
