A fire erupted early Wednesday morning at a commercial establishment in Crawford Market, near Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market, in South Mumbai.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident was reported around 2:13 am.
The blaze was restricted to the ground floor of a single-storey structure and affected electric wiring and installations, a window air-conditioning unit, an LED television, a ceiling fan, a false ceiling, a CCTV camera, wooden furniture, a stock of Pedigree pet food, plastic sheets, and an outdoor AC unit. The affected area measured approximately 15 by 50 feet, officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said.
The MFB classified the fire as Level-I at 2:28 am and deployed fire tenders and personnel to the site. After nearly two hours of firefighting operations, the blaze was brought under control and completely extinguished by 4:00 am.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and further investigation is underway.
Fire breaks out in auto company premises in Thane city; no injuries reported
In another incident, a fire broke out in the premises of an automobile company in Thane city on Tuesday night, though there was no immediate report of any injuries, civic officials said, reported PTI.
The blaze at MS Auto Company, located in the Shilphata area, was reported to the Disaster Management Cell at around 8:20 pm, prompting a quick response to put out the flames, they said, reported PTI.
Personnel from the Shil Fire Station rushed to the spot with two fire engines, one water tanker and a rescue vehicle.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation`s Disaster Management Cell, “Fire extinguishing work was underway and no one was injured at the scene yet,” reported PTI.
The situation was being closely monitored, and precautionary measures were in place to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, he said, reported PTI.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) personnel were assisting in efforts to douse the flames, according to Tadvi, reported PTI.
