The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) has uncovered another layer of deceit in the fake BARC scientist case. Accused Akhtar Qutubuddin Husaini Ahmed, alias Alexander Palmer, allegedly made multiple international calls that are now being traced by investigators.
The probe also revealed that Jharkhand-based accused Munazzil Khan forged two fake passports for Ahmed’s brother, using the address of their ancestral home in Jamshedpur’s Azad Nagar, a property sold nearly 30 years ago.
Forged identity, fake roots
Police said Khan prepared the passports despite the house being sold after Ahmed’s father’s death in 1995. The fake documents were issued in the names Hussaini Mohammad Adil and Nasimuddin Syed Adil Hussaini.
Both brothers, Akhtar and Adil, are suspected to have travelled abroad using these forged identities. Ahmed has been remanded to judicial custody till November 12, while Khan remains in police custody till November 1.
Brother nabbed in Delhi
Sources said Adil Husaini, who had introduced Ahmed to Khan, was arrested by the Delhi police. Investigators believe he too obtained fake travel papers from the same network. During questioning, Ahmed initially misled officers by claiming his brother was dead.
Ahmed was arrested from Yari Road, Versova, after CIU officials seized multiple fake passports, Aadhaar and PAN cards, and forged BARC identity cards in the name Ali Raza Hussain.
Trail of forgery and deceit
Police said Ahmed has a history of impersonation. In 2004, he was deported from Dubai for falsely claiming to possess classified documents. He later travelled to Tehran and Dubai on forged passports. During a previous arrest, police recovered 14 maps and suspected nuclear-related data, which are still being verified.
Investigators have also named Khan’s brother, Iliyaz Khan, as a wanted accused for allegedly helping Ahmed create fake educational certificates — including SSC, HSC, BSc, BE (Mechanical), and MEBSH (Safety). Officials said Ahmed, originally from Jamshedpur, sold his ancestral property in 1996 but continued visiting the area, using old contacts to obtain fake documents and IDs.
Police sources added that Ahmed is also wanted in Meerut, where a case at Kanker Khera police station accuses him of waging war against the Uttar Pradesh government and spreading disaffection through false propaganda.
