Mumbai: After quarrel, man’s friend steals ice cream cart to make him happy

The Vanrai police in Goregaon have arrested two men who stole an ice cream cart after a petty quarrel. Arvind Yadav, 34, and Ramdulare Moriya, 35, were booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

During interrogation, police learned that Yadav had an argument with the ice cream vendor and vented his frustration to Moriya, saying that whoever troubles the vendor would make him happiest. To appease his friend, Moriya decided to steal the cart. He allegedly took the cart from near Goregaon East railway station at night and abandoned it under the Mrinal Tai Gore Flyover along the Western Express Highway before fleeing.

The police recovered the cart and returned it to the vendor. PIC/BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT

The complainant, Shankarlal Dalichand Gadri, 20, a resident of Ramnagar in Ghasbazar, Goregaon East, runs an ice cream business at Jaykoch Junction. Gadri told the police that he chains his cart at the spot every night after work. However, when he returned on November 5, he found the cart missing. After searching for two days, he lodged a complaint at Vanrai police station.

The police quickly began their investigation, traced the stolen cart to a secluded location, and arrested both accused. During questioning, the duo confessed to the act, claiming they didn’t intend to “steal” but only wanted to “trouble” the vendor. The recovered cart, valued at around Rs 60,000, has been returned to the vendor.
