Mumbai: 65-year-old foundry owner murdered; son, partner among arrested

A 65-year-old foundry businessman Mohd Ayub Sayyed was brutally killed inside his office at the Government Industrial Estate in Charkop on Sunday morning. Police have arrested three individuals — including the victim’s younger son, his business partner, and one of the hired killers — while a second assailant remains on the run.

Investigators said the murder was the result of a conspiracy by the victim’s son, Hanif Sayyed, and his partner, Shanu Chaudhary, 40. The duo allegedly hired two contract killers from Govandi, promising them Rs 6.5 lakh for the job. An advance of Rs 1 lakh was paid, with the rest to follow after the crime. One accused, Khairul Islam Qadir Ali, 27, has been arrested.

Police revealed that Ayub had recently moved court to revoke the deed of a flat he had gifted his son in Evershine Nagar, Malad, citing his son’s irresponsible behaviour. At the same time, Chaudhary, who had invested crores into the foundry business and bought machinery, was frustrated at seeing no returns. This common resentment pushed the two to plot the murder.

On Sunday morning, two men stormed Ayub’s office and stabbed him multiple times with sharp weapons before fleeing. The attack shocked the local business community. Under the guidance of DCP Sandeep Jadhav and ACP Nita Padvi, a Charkop police team led by Senior Inspector Vinayak Chauhan cracked the case within days. The detection team, including API Dhananjay Avhad and PSI Aba Pawar, arrested the son, partner, and one killer. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to nab the absconding accused.
