The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has launched a WhatsApp-based ticketing system for Mumbai Metro Line-3 commuters. The new service allows passengers to purchase metro tickets directly via WhatsApp, without the need for downloading a separate app.
The feature is powered by PeLocal Fintech Pvt. Ltd., and can be accessed by sending “Hi” to +91 98730 16836 or by scanning QR codes displayed at metro stations. Commuters will receive QR-based tickets instantly through a simple chat interface.
“This initiative reflects our continued focus on enhancing commuter convenience through smart and user-friendly solutions,” said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC.
“WhatsApp is already familiar to millions, making it an ideal platform for ticketing. Our goal is to make travel more seamless, efficient, and sustainable,” she added.
The integration, supported by Meta, enables commuters to generate up to six QR tickets in one go. It also supports a variety of payment methods. UPI payments will remain free of extra charges, while minimal fees will apply for card transactions.
Meta India’s Director of Business Messaging, Ravi Garg, welcomed the development, stating, “This partnership makes ticketing as easy as sending a message and offers commuters a quick, eco-friendly solution.”
PeLocal CEO Vivekanand Tripathi said the launch in Mumbai builds on successful deployments with Delhi Metro, DTC, and other transit systems.
“We’re proud to bring this innovation to Mumbai Metro Line 3. It aligns with our mission to simplify public transport through technology,” he said.
