Man poses as cop, cheats Goregaon hotel owner by staying without paying bill

The Bangur Nagar Police in Mumbai have arrested a man who posed as a police officer and cheated a hotel owner by staying at his lodge without paying the bill, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Prakash Gyanadev Jadhav, alias Pakya (41), a resident of Ambujwadi, Malwani, Malad West, was apprehended from Link Road, Goregaon West, in the early hours of November 4, at around 1:53 am, said officials.

According to police sources, Pakya works as a Matadi Kamgar and resides in the Malwani Ambujwadi area in Malad West.

On October 13, between 1:30 pm and 9:30 pm, he stayed at Nexus Inn Lodge, Bhagat Singh Nagar 2, Link Road, Goregaon West. He booked a room at the lodge by falsely claiming to be a senior police officer from the Mumbai Crime Branch. When the hotel staff demanded ID proof and payment, the accused refused to pay and even threatened the complainant, the officials said.

Following the complaint, a case under relevant sections, including 204 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was registered at Bangur Nagar Police Station by the hotel owner.

“Under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Awhad, Police Inspector (Crime) Amit Shitole, PSI Sanjay Sarolkar, PSI Yogesh Randhe, HC Kadam, PC Galve, PC Jadhav, PC Harugade, and PC Shinde, the investigation team reviewed CCTV footage and deployed informants to trace the suspect. Based on technical analysis and intelligence, Jadhav was finally tracked down and arrested,” said an officer from Bangur Nagar Police Station.

During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to committing the offence. Jadhav was produced before the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate Court today, the officer added.
