Malwani church horror: Woman’s body found in disturbing condition

The Malwani area in Malad West has witnessed two grisly incidents in the past 24 hours. In the latest case, the Malwani police on Thursday morning discovered the body of a woman in a semi-nude condition near Malwani church.  Police identified the body as that of a 46-year-old, who was reportedly a sex worker. Police said that after examining the incident and looking at the condition of the body, it is being speculated that she was strangled to death. After preparing the panchnama, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

The woman, a resident of Charkop, is survived by her mother, brother, and a 13-year-old son. According to police sources, the body was found near the church area in an isolated place. Locals claim that people gather here at night to drink and consume drugs. Senior officials, including DCP Zone XI, Malwani Division ACP Nita Padvi, and Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar, along with crime branch officials and forensic team visited the spot, examined the spot and collected crucial evidence from the scene.

“We have registered an ADR [accidental death report] and are awaiting the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death. Action will be taken accordingly,” said Senior Inspector Nagarkar of Malwani police station. On Wednesday, the police arrested a 39-year-old man, Siddharth Rajkumar Patel, in Malwani’s Julius Wadi for allegedly assaulting his 23-year-old live-in partner and attempting to kill her three-and-a-half-year-old son by strangling him with an electrical wire.

According to the police, the woman complainant had been living with the accused and her son at Hashmi Chawl. According to the complaint filed with the Malwani police station, Patel allegedly confronted the woman over a visit to her estranged husband. He verbally abused and assaulted her, and in a fit of rage, force-fed her Crocin tablets. He then allegedly tried to strangle the child with a wire from an extension board.

Following her distress call to the police helpline (100), Police Inspector Jivan Bhatkule, along with his team, rushed to the spot, rescued the victim and her child, and took Patel into custody.  “A case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused,” said PI Bhatkule.
