Maharashtra weather update: Intense rainfall and storm warnings across state

The India Meteorological Department has issued widespread alerts across Maharashtra as the state braces for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days, especially in coastal and ghat regions.

On Saturday, Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph.

Following that, heavy rainfall at isolated places is predicted for Sunday and Monday. 

The intensity will reduce slightly by Wednesday, with moderate rain likely across the city.

The probability of rainfall on all five days is classified as “Very Likely”, indicating high confidence in the forecast.

In Ratnagiri and Raigad, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places, with a high probability of localised disruption.

Palghar is also under alert for thunderstorms with lightning and heavy showers, while Sindhudurg will continue to receive heavy to very heavy rain throughout the weekend.

In interior districts like Dhule, Nandurbar, Nasik, Jalgaon, and Pune, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and winds ranging from 30–50 kmph is forecasted. 

The ghats of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur are expected to be hit hard with very heavy rainfall and strong winds, raising the risk of landslides and road blockages.

The weather office warns of potential damage to crops, power outages, falling trees, and traffic disruptions, especially in vulnerable regions. 

Farmers have been advised to harvest mature crops immediately, ensure safe storage, and avoid irrigation or pesticide application. Cattle and livestock should be sheltered securely.

Citizens are urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and unplug electronic appliances during lightning activity.

The overall probability of rainfall activity is “very likely” across all affected districts through June 18, 2025.

Mumbai weather update: Possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in city

Mumbai is bracing for another round of intense rainfall, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather updates about the city and its suburbs on Saturday. As per the latest forecast issued at 8:00 am, there is a possibility of rain at isolated places in Mumbai and surrounding areas. The weather bureau has also indicated the likelihood of thunderstorms, urging citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Also, the warning comes amid already active monsoon conditions. According to rainfall data recorded between 8:00 am on June 13 and 8:00 am on June 14, the city received 19 mm of rain, while the eastern suburbs recorded 4 mm and the western suburbs saw 5 mm. Though these numbers are moderate, the intensity is expected to increase through the day, especially during late afternoon and evening hours.
