A minor boy and a man were injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster fell at a house in a 30-year-old building in Maharashtra`s Thane city on Wednesday morning, officials said, reported news agency PTI.

The incident occurred around 6.45 am at the Sai Mamta Building located in the Wagle Estate area. The Thane building had been listed in the C2B category as a dilapidated building requiring structural repairs, they said, reported PTI.

The ceiling plaster of the house in the Thane building suddenly fell while some members of a family were asleep, Thane`s disaster management cell head Yasin Tadvi said.

An 11-year-old boy and a man aged 22 suffered injuries, he said.

Sai Mamta is a four-storey Thane building with 12 houses, along with an additional terrace room. Being an old structure, it requires attention to prevent further risks, the official said, reported PTI.

The incident has been reported to the municipal department concerned for necessary structural checks and action, he said.

Part of chawl collapses in Thane; 10 persons rescued

In another incident, a portion of the gallery at a chawl collapsed in Maharashtra`s Thane district, trapping 10 persons, officials said on Monday, reported PTI.

The incident took place around 10.30 pm on Sunday, they said, adding the trapped persons were later rescued and all 40 flats in the chawl (row tenement) were vacated as a precautionary measure, reported PTI.

A part of the gallery slab on the first floor of the Sanjay Mhatre Chawl collapsed in the Diva area, Thane Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.

Ten people were trapped in three flats on the first floor, and the fire brigade personnel later rescued them, he said.

The single-storey chawl, estimated to be 15 to 20 years old, is not listed as a dangerous building, he said.

Given the precarious condition of the structure, further safety measures were taken.

There are a total of 40 flats in the chawl, and they were vacated as a precautionary measure. Around 35 to 40 residents have been advised to temporarily shift to their relatives` house until further inspection and repairs, the official said, reported PTI.
