Maharashtra: Two held with Rs 53 lakh drugs after raids in Palghar and Thane

Police have seized drugs valued at Rs 53 lakh in two separate raids in Maharashtra`s Palghar and Thane districts and arrested two persons in this connection, officials said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.

Acting on a tip, the police conducted a raid on a man`s house in Vasai area of Palghar on October 18 and recovered 1.088 kg of charas, valued at Rs 16.37 lakh, a police release said, reported PTI.

The man, identified as Irfan Suleman Khatri (70), was arrested, it said, reported PTI.

During his interrogation, Khatri told the police that he had procured the narcotics from a person based at Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane.

The police subsequently raided the residence of Tarbez Amin Mian Khan (25) in Thane and seized 1.386 kg of charas and 1.05 kg of ganja, collectively valued at Rs 37,51,080. Khan was subsequently placed under arrest, the release said, reported PTI.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Passenger held with hydroponic weed of Rs 10.5 crore at Mumbai airport

In another case, the Mumbai Customs arrested two passengers for carrying 10.5 kg hydroponic weed with an estimated value of Rs 10.5 crore and 200 grams of gold in separate cases at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, officials said on Monday, reported PTI.

The narcotic substance was concealed inside the trolley bag of a passenger who had arrived from Bangkok in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. He was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reported PTI.

Separately, a passenger was held for carrying a gold bracelet and a chain made from raw gold valued at Rs 23.54 lakh.

Rs 5.8 lakh mephedrone seized in Nashik; 3 held

Meanwhile, the police have arrested three persons after seizing mephedrone (MD) drug valued at Rs 5.82 lakh from their possession in Malegaon town of Maharashtra`s Nashik district, officials said, reported PTI.

Acting on a tip-off about drug peddling, a special squad of the police conducted a raid in Malegaon`s Hirapur Maidan area on Tuesday and found three persons possessing 194 gm of the contraband with the motive to sell it, an official said, reported PTI.

They had obtained the drug from a man who is at large, the official said.

The police arrested the three accused, identified as Ansari Istiaq Mukhtar Ahmed (25), Jalal Ahmed Mohammed Haneef Shiekh (32) and Mosin Khan Jainulabdin Pathan (37), and booked them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official said, reported PTI.

Search was on for the fourth accused, the police added.
