Maharashtra gets nothing from visits by PM Modi, Shah: Congress leader Patole

Congress leader Nana Patole on Wednesday said Maharashtra gains nothing from the frequent visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Mumbai, reported the PTI.

Speaking to PTI Videos, Patole alleged that funds were being diverted from Maharashtra to Bihar ahead of the upcoming elections.

Reacting to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s recent remarks calling Shah an “anaconda,” Nana Patole said he avoids using such language for anyone, as it is “not part of our culture.”

Prime Minister Modi was in Mumbai on Wednesday for events linked to India Maritime Week 2025, while Amit Shah had visited the city earlier this week.

“Whenever they come to Mumbai, the city faces major traffic disruptions, but Maharashtra gets nothing in return,” Patole said, according to the PTI.

“Farmers are suffering, suicides are increasing, and even the Diwali relief funds promised by the Home Minister never reached them,” PM Modi said.

He also accused the BJP of dividing people along religious lines to influence elections, calling it a “desperate move that will not succeed.”

Meanwhile, addressing the Maritime Leaders Conclave at the India Maritime Week 2025 event in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday pitched India as a `steady lighthouse` for the world amid global tensions, trade disruptions and shifting supply chains.

He said the country`s maritime and trade initiatives are a part of a broader vision and cited the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor as an example of redefining trade routes in the future.

Earlier, Congress leader Sachin Sawant alleged that curtains were being put up to hide slums in Jogeshwari during Modi’s visit, accusing the BJP-led state government of being “ashamed” of Mumbai’s poor, as per the PTI.

“They are so ashamed of Mumbaikars living in slums that they’ve put up curtains to hide them,” Sawant wrote on X.

“You can cover up poverty, filth, and suffering — but how will you hide the BJP’s hatred for the poor and its lack of compassion?” he added, the news agency reported.

Sawant dubbed the exercise a “Garibi Chhupao Abhiyan” (Hide Poverty Campaign), comparing it to similar actions taken during high-profile events like Namaste Trump in Ahmedabad and the G20 Summit in Mumbai.
