Maharashtra floods: Relief efforts for farmers underway, says Shinde

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the state government has initiated immediate relief measures for flood-affected farmers in Marathwada, with compensation to be disbursed at the earliest opportunity, reported the PTI.

Speaking at a Shiv Sena rally in Navi Mumbai, Eknath Shinde said that it is the government’s duty to support farmers in distress and assured that they would not be left to endure their hardships alone.

Incessant rainfall has battered several parts of Marathwada in recent days, cutting off remote villages, flooding low-lying roads, and devastating crops across lakhs of acres in this traditionally drought-prone region.

The Deputy Chief Minister Shinde shared his experiences from visits to flood-hit areas in Marathwada, where the rains and ensuing floods have destroyed homes, farmland, and livestock.

“The plight of farmers moved me deeply. The government will stand by them. Relief efforts are already underway, and compensation will be provided as swiftly as possible,” he said, according to the PTI.

Eknath Shinde also criticised pre-2014 governments, alleging that those years were marred by corruption, injustice, and developmental neglect.

“Farmers, labourers, and common citizens suffered during that time, and their concerns were largely ignored,” he said, as per the PTI.

Shinde praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the pace of development had significantly increased under his tenure.

“Decisions today are taken with transparency and in the public interest, across every sector,” the Shiv Sena chief said, according to the PTI.

He added that India’s stature on the global stage had grown and that Maharashtra had emerged as a hub for industry, employment, and investment.

Addressing party workers and leaders ahead of the upcoming civic elections, Eknath Shinde urged them to secure victories in key municipal bodies including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan-Dombivli as well as in local councils across the state.

The rally also witnessed the induction of Congress youth leader Ankush Kadam and hundreds of his supporters into Shiv Sena.

Shinde noted that the addition of new leaders and party workers would bolster the party’s strength and offer a strategic edge in the forthcoming local body elections, the news agency reported.
